About ReFly

About the Founder

ReFly was founded by Clay Geisel, a lifelong fly fishing enthusiast with more than a decade of experience in the fly fishing industry.

Clay's journey into fly fishing began about 12 years ago after inheriting his grandfather’s fly rods. What started as a way to stay connected to his grandfather quickly grew into a passion for the craft, the water, and the community surrounding it.

Today, Clay still fishes with one of those original setups—a bamboo Orvis fly rod paired with his grandfather’s Hardy Featherweight reel. Those heirlooms are a constant reminder that fly fishing gear carries stories, history, and meaning far beyond the water.

After spending more than 10 years working in the fly fishing industry, Clay created ReFly to give quality gear a second life and to help connect anglers who believe great equipment—and great stories—should keep moving.

Why ReFly

When trying to buy or sell fly fishing gear, the options were frustrating. Platforms like Facebook, Etsy, and eBay don’t offer clear, fly-fishing–specific categories—making it difficult to find the right gear or trust what you’re buying.

Fly fishing is a niche with its own language, standards, and culture. A 5-weight rod or a hand-tied dry fly isn’t just “sporting goods” or “crafts.” ReFly was built to give fly fishing its own dedicated marketplace.

Built for Sellers

Most large marketplaces charge high fees that eat into your sale. ReFly keeps fees simple and fair—with a lower 8% marketplace fee, so sellers keep more of what they earn while buyers support real anglers and makers, not massive platforms.

What You’ll Find

  • Used and pre-loved fly fishing gear

  • Vintage and hard-to-find equipment

  • Handmade flies and small-batch goods

  • Listings from real anglers, tiers, and makers

Our Mission

ReFly exists to extend the life of fly fishing gear, support independent sellers, and reduce waste—while offering a focused marketplace with fair fees and no unnecessary noise.
